Empowering the Vulnerable:
In a world where many face hardship and uncertainty, the need for compassionate, community-driven support is more important than ever. This is where the Foundation of Christ Charity Ministries (FCCM) steps in—an organization born out of personal resilience, faith, and a desire to give back to those in need.
Founded by Elder Tarpeh Christopher Zarzar, FCCM is a testament to the power of overcoming adversity and using one’s life experiences to uplift others. Elder Zarzar’s journey from surviving the horrors of the Liberian Civil War to leading an impactful charity foundation has inspired countless lives, and the mission of FCCM is simple yet profound: to ensure that the most vulnerable—children, women, widows, and disadvantaged youth—are given the support they need to thrive.
A Journey of Faith and Resilience
Elder Zarzar’s story begins in the heart of Liberia, where he endured one of the darkest periods in the country’s history—the 1990 civil war. Rebels targeted him at his mother’s home, shooting him in the leg. By the grace of God, he escaped, eventually seeking refuge in Ghana and later migrating to the United States. Despite the trials he faced, including the separation from his family, his faith never wavered. He believed that his survival was for a purpose far greater than himself.
After establishing his life in the U.S., Elder Zarzar pursued higher education, served in the U.S. Army, and dedicated over 15 years to the field of mental health and addiction counseling. However, the call to serve his home country never left him. In 2020, he founded FCCM, motivated by his desire to give back to Liberia, the country that had once given him so much. His vision was to create a foundation that would provide children and families with the resources, skills, and opportunities they needed to build a better life.
Meeting the Needs of Liberia’s Most Vulnerable
Since its inception, FCCM has remained dedicated to its mission of empowering Liberia’s underprivileged communities. The foundation’s work is rooted in four key areas:
- Home-Tutoring Program: This initiative provides personalized tutoring to students in their own homes, ensuring they receive the academic support they need. FCCM understands that many children in Liberia face significant barriers to education, from overcrowded classrooms to financial difficulties, and seeks to provide an alternative that sets them up for success.
- Community-Based and School Feeding Program: For many children in Liberia, consistent access to nutritious food is a daily struggle. Through FCCM’s feeding programs, the organization works to combat food insecurity, ensuring children receive regular meals both at home and in school. This includes the “Food for Book” initiative, which incentivizes school attendance by providing meals to kindergarten students.
- Nutritional Health Program: Education about proper nutrition and hygiene is crucial for long-term well-being. FCCM’s Nutritional Health Program teaches children and families about healthy diets, personal hygiene, and preventive health practices. It also facilitates peer-to-peer dialogues to promote community engagement and well-being.
- Sustainable Livelihood Program (Agriculture): FCCM believes in not only providing immediate aid but also in empowering individuals to build sustainable futures. The Sustainable Livelihood Program offers training in agriculture, soap making, small business management, and more. Through these training sessions, participants gain valuable skills that allow them to generate income and contribute to the economic growth of their communities.
A Vision for the Future
At the heart of FCCM’s work is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their circumstances. Through life skills training, education, and healthcare support, FCCM is making strides in ensuring that Liberia’s most vulnerable populations are not left behind.
Elder Zarzar’s personal journey serves as both a guiding light and a source of hope for the foundation’s efforts. His vision for FCCM is not just about addressing immediate needs but about creating lasting change, building resilient communities, and empowering the next generation to lead their country towards a brighter future.
